Emitar/S 4,5/80 Review

Emitar/S 4,5/80 is an enlarger lens for medium format enlarger “Krokus-66 Color”. Produced in Poland. The manufacturer is PZO Warszawa. The lens is available in different versions and mountings.
PZO Warszawa manufactures special optical instruments: microscopes, overhead projectors, binoculars, photographic enlargers, etc. Among lenses for photographic enlargers, I have met Mikar/S 4,5/55. It is for small-format photographic enlargers and Amar 4,5/105 - for large format. Janpol Color 5,6/80. Other lenses of this brand I have not seen. The optical design is Tessar, with 4 elements in 3 groups.
The lens has a small size: 4 cm long and 42 mm diameter.
Aperture has 5 blades. Closes discrete and have a total of 5 points: 4,5-5,6-8-11-16. The lens has a budget constructive. In front of a lens, the hood is made in the form of a polygon, whereby the front lens is fitted with a 6 mm depth.
Emitar/S 4,5/80 Mounting to a DSLR Camera
The lens has a mount thread M42. I mount Emitar/S 4,5/80 on the Nikon camera by special homemade helicoid, small extension ring, and adapter M42-Nikon. When the focus range is from 2 m to infinity, if you want to focus on a close range, you need to put a middle extension ring in place, but it will not be infinity. With this homemade helicoid, the feeling is that this is a constructive native lens.

The lens generally shows good quality. Sharpness is not exсellent, but enough for street scenes and portraits.
The color render is good. The lens is good to reproduce half-tones and nuanced colors.

Summary
Emitar/S 4,5/80 a typical enlarger lens. Nothing unusual and special to expect from it. But it does not mean that it is not suitable for taking pictures.
